Descending Into Your Depth

Moving Through Layers of Consciousness

There are many ways to think about meditation. Progressively deepening your awareness is one of them.

In this meditation practice, I borrow from teachers Steve March and Jack Kornfield — amongst others — and guide you through deepening layers of your experience.

  1. The first layer is your content.

  2. The second layer is process.

  3. The third layer is open awareness.

You first notice the content of your thoughts and emotions, like choppy waves at the surface, pulling you here and there.

Then you notice that all of your thinking and feeling are just processes that are coming and going. They are impermanent and flowing.

Lastly, you step back into awareness itself. All content and process is part of the greater field of awareness, including the sense of being you. You rest in this deep, spacious, and still awareness.

My voice is a little bit groggy in this one because I recorded early in the morning before the family woke up. I hope it doesn’t detract from the guidance… enjoy!
