Put a tablespoon of salt into a cup and it tastes salty. Put a tablespoon of salt into a swimming pool and you can hardly taste it. When you expand the container, the salt becomes diluted.
You can do the same thing with your mind.
When the container of your mind is small and focused on a couple of repetitive thoughts, you feel consumed by these big thoughts. When your mind is big, wide, spacious and expansive, you can barely notice the thoughts because they’re so small.
The greater your awareness, the less sticky one part of your awareness becomes, and many of your “big problems” aren’t so big anymore.
When you expand the field of awareness to include all sensations in your body, the tension in the back becomes less prominent. Your reaction to the pain decreases, relieving some of the mental tension.
I hope you enjoy this meditation on bringing your awareness to your whole body.
